Maimonides was born in 1135, although Rabbi Miller writes that he was born in 1138. The year 1138 appears in traditional Jewish sources, but these same sources question whether a scribe has made an error in copying the last digit. By using the calculations for the Jewish calendar for these two years, only 1135 fits the circumstances of Maimonides' birth. He was born on Shabbat afternoon (Saturday) 14 Nissan. In 1135, 14 Nissan coincided with Shabbat, whereas this was not the case in the year 1138.
